Red edge

Red edge is the name for the phenomenon that happens in the natural world when certain types of plants are viewed using a special type of camera called a multispectral camera. This camera is able to take a picture of the plants in different colors of light beyond what our eyes can see. When the picture is taken, the plants appear to have a red edge or rim around them - this is the red edge. Scientists use this red edge phenomenon to identify different types of plants from a distance and help with understanding the natural environment.
