Redshirt (character)

Okay, so you know how sometimes in movies and TV shows there are people who wear red shirts and they don't really seem that important? Well, those people are called "redshirts". They are usually characters who aren't the main characters, but they are still there to help move the story along.

The reason they are called redshirts is because on a show called Star Trek, there were characters who wore red shirts and they would often be the ones who something bad happened to. It became a joke that if you were wearing a red shirt, you were going to have a bad time.

So, when people talk about redshirts, they are usually talking about characters who are important to the story, but not as important as the main character. Sometimes these characters will die or have something bad happen to them to show how dangerous the situation is. But other times, they will end up being okay and just continue to help the story move along.
