Reference datum height

Okay kiddo, do you ever look at a map or a drawing of a building and wonder how tall things are in real life? Well, that's where something called a reference datum height comes in handy.

Think of it like a starting point or a zero point for measuring height. It helps us figure out how high or low something is compared to that point.

Now, why do we need a reference datum height? Imagine if you and your friend were trying to measure how tall you both were, but your friend started measuring from their head and you started measuring from your feet. You wouldn't get an accurate measurement because you're both starting from different points.

That's why we have a reference datum height - to create a common starting point for everyone who needs to measure height. It's usually based on something specific, like sea level, a designated point on a building, or a specific point in the ground.

So, when people use a reference datum height, they can accurately compare and measure the heights of different things. They can even use it to make sure buildings or structures are level and stable.

I hope that helps explain what a reference datum height is and why it's important!
