Regurgitalith

Regurgitalith is a big and fancy word that means something vomited up by a bird. Just like when you throw up your food because your tummy doesn't like it, sometimes birds also throw up things they've eaten that they can't digest or that are just too big for their tummies to handle.

But the things that birds throw up aren't just yucky and gross like what we sometimes throw up. They can actually be really important clues for scientists who study these birds. That's because birds often eat things like rocks, shells, and bones that can't be digested. These things stay in the bird's stomach for a while and can get all mixed up with the rest of the bird's food.

So when a bird throws up, all those hard things come out in a big lump called a regurgitalith. Scientists can then study these lumps to try and figure out what the bird was eating and where it was living. It's like a big, gross puzzle that helps them learn more about these amazing animals!
