ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Rehabilitation (neuropsychology)

Rehabilitation in neuropsychology is like going to school to learn new things again after you had an accident or injury that affected your brain. Your brain is like a big computer that controls your body and helps you think and feel, and when something goes wrong, it can affect how you do things like talking, moving or remembering things.

Rehabilitation is like going to a special school to learn how to do those things again or to find new ways to do them. Just like in school, you have teachers who help you learn new things, but in rehabilitation, they are called therapists. They help you practice and exercise your brain and body to help you get better.

For example, if you have trouble speaking after an accident, you might work with a speech therapist who teaches you how to make certain sounds or use your voice in a different way. Or if you have trouble with your memory, you might work with a memory therapist who helps you remember things better with tricks and techniques.

Rehabilitation can be hard work, just like school, but it can also be fun and rewarding because you're learning new things and getting better every day. With the help of your therapists and a lot of patience and practice, you can get back to doing the things you love, even if it takes time and effort.
