ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Reichsarbeitsdienst

Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD) was a big group of people who were asked to help in Germany before and during World War II. Think of it like a big club where people volunteered to do work for their country.

The idea was to help young men improve themselves and also to help the country. They did things like build roads, plant trees, and clear fields. They worked together with others and learned important life skills.

They wore special clothes to show that they were part of this big club, and sometimes they lived together in big camps. The people in charge of the RAD made sure that everyone was safe and happy while they worked.

Even though many people volunteered to join the RAD, some were forced to join. This was because Germany needed more people to help during the war.

Today, many people remember the RAD and its symbol as a part of history, but it reminds us that we should always work together to make things better for ourselves and for our community.
