A repertory grid is a tool used to help people understand and organize their thoughts about different people, places, or things (called "elements"). You can think of it like a chart or grid on a piece of paper or computer. To use a repertory grid, you first pick some elements that you want to compare and then choose a few descriptive words or phrases (called "constructs") that will help you compare the elements. For example, if you were comparing different types of ice cream, you might choose the constructs "tastes sweet," "has a lot of calories," and "comes in a variety of flavors." You then rate each element according to how well it matches each of your chosen constructs. For example, you might rate cookies and cream ice cream and strawberry ice cream on the construct of sweetness. After you have rated all of the elements for all of your chosen constructs, you can look at the ratings to help you understand more about the elements you are comparing.
