Restavek

Restavek is a word that comes from Haiti and it means "one who stays with". In Haiti, a restavek is a child who comes from a poor family and stays with a family that is better off. They are supposed to work and help around the house in exchange for food, shelter, and clothing. But often times, they are treated badly and used as cheap labor. This is not fair and it is against the law in Haiti, but it still happens. Restavek children do not have the same opportunities as other children and they often do not go to school or have time to play because they are always working. This is not right and we should all work together to make sure that every child, no matter where they come from, has the chance to live a happy and healthy life.
