Retinitis pigmentosa

Retinitis pigmentosa is a big word that means there is a problem with the parts of your eyes that help you see. These parts are called your retina, and they help you see things like colors, shapes, and movement.

When someone has retinitis pigmentosa, these parts of their eyes don't work quite right. This can make it hard to see in certain ways. Sometimes people with retinitis pigmentosa have trouble seeing in the dark or in dimly lit areas. Other times, they might have trouble with their side vision or have a hard time seeing things far away.

Retinitis pigmentosa can happen to anyone, but it usually runs in families. This means that if someone in your family has it, you might be more likely to have it too. Unfortunately, there is no cure for retinitis pigmentosa right now, but there are things that can be done to help people with it see better. For example, they might need to wear glasses or use special tools to help them see things more clearly.

Even though it can be hard to have retinitis pigmentosa, it's important to know that there are lots of people who have it and still do amazing things every day.
