ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Rill

Imagine you're walking in a garden after it rains. You can see some water moving down the small slopes of the ground. These small streams of water are called rills. They form when rainwater or melted snow flows down hills or small dips in the ground.

Just like when you pour water on a slope or a slide and see it make its own path, these tiny waterways carve out their own channels in the dirt. Over time, the rills can get deeper and wider, creating small valleys.

Rills may appear small, but they are actually a really important part of the water cycle. They help move water from one place to another and make sure all the plants and animals around have water to drink.
