Rillaton Barrow

Okay kiddo, so a long time ago, people didn't have houses or buildings like we do today. They would make their homes out of things like sticks and stones, and they would bury their special things in the ground.

Sometimes, when these people died, their friends and family would bury them in big hills called barrows. These barrows were like big mounds of dirt and rocks that covered a grave.

One of these barrows is called the Rillaton Barrow. It was discovered in England in 1837 and inside was a very special thing. It was called the Rillaton gold cup, and it was made a long time ago, around 1600 BC (that's really, really old!). The cup was made out of gold, and it had some designs and shapes on it.

People think that the cup was probably really important to the person who was buried in the barrow. Maybe it was a symbol of their power or wealth or a way to remember them after they had died.

So that's what the Rillaton Barrow and the Rillaton gold cup are all about - a special treasure buried a long time ago by people who lived a very different way of life than we do today.
