Rip cut

A rip cut is when you use a saw to cut a piece of wood or other material along the length of the grain, like slicing a banana lengthwise. This is different from a cross-cut, which is when you cut across the grain like slicing a banana into circles.

So if you had a long board and you wanted to cut it into two smaller boards, you would use a rip cut. You would place your saw blade against the edge of the board and then move it along the length of the board, cutting through it until you reach the end.

Rip cuts are useful for making long cuts, like cutting a board in half or creating a groove or channel in a piece of wood. They're important to know how to do if you want to do any woodworking projects, but you always need to be careful when working with saws so make sure you have adult supervision and take necessary safety precautions.
