ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Robot welding

Okay, so imagine you have a toy car and you want to glue two pieces of it together. You can do it by holding them in your hand and applying glue yourself. But what if you had a robot that could do it for you? That's what robot welding is - instead of you doing the work, a robot does it for you.

But instead of glue, the robot uses something called welding wire. Welding wire is like a very thin metal rod that gets melted and stuck to the two pieces of metal that you want to join together.

The robot has a special arm that holds onto the welding wire and moves it around to melt it and stick it to the two pieces of metal. The robot is very accurate and can move the welding wire very precisely, so it can make a really strong bond between the two pieces of metal.

It's like when you color with a crayon - you try to color inside the lines as best you can, but sometimes you go outside the lines by mistake. But the robot never makes mistakes like that because it's really good at following instructions.

So, robot welding is like having a helper that can join two pieces of metal together with a special metal rod instead of glue. The helper is very good at it and never makes mistakes.
