Rocca (fortification)

Imagine you are playing a game of "defend the castle" with your friends. You build a fort by placing big rocks and bricks all around the perimeter so nobody can get in. This fort is called a rocca!

In the olden days, people built roccas to protect themselves from enemies or invaders who wanted to take over their land, houses, and things they owned. A rocca was usually a massive, big and strong fortress with a high wall, thick, and tall towers which helped soldiers see the enemy from far away.

Imagine a birds-eye-view of a rocca! You would see arrow slits on the walls, cannons pointed at the entrance, and a big gate that could only be opened or closed from the inside. These helped to keep enemies outside and gave soldiers the power to fight back. The soldiers who protected the rocca were well trained and had weapons like swords, shields and armor to fight the invaders.

In short, a rocca is a big, strong fortress built to protect people from danger by keeping enemies outside and giving soldiers the power to fight back.
