ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Rock mass plasticity

Okay kiddo, do you know what rock is? It's like the hard stuff you see outside or at the park, right? Now, sometimes lots of rocks are all stuck together and make a big thing, kind of like a giant puzzle. We call this a rock mass.

So, rock mass plasticity is when that giant puzzle can move and change shape, like if you were playing with clay or playdough. It happens because rocks can actually bend and squish a little bit, even though they seem really hard.

When we study rock mass plasticity, we're trying to understand how the rock mass can change shape over time. This can be important for things like building tunnels or digging mines. We need to know how the rock will behave so we can make sure it's safe for people to work or travel inside.

Is that clear, little one? Let me know if you have any questions!
