Rondavel

A rondavel is a type of round house. It is called a rondavel because "rond" means "round" in Afrikaans (a language spoken in South Africa) and "avel" refers to "dwellings". So, in simple words, a rondavel is a round house where people live.

The walls of a rondavel are usually made of mud or stone and they have a thatched roof (a roof made of straw). Inside, there is a central space and a smaller room where people can sleep or store things. Some rondavels also have a fireplace for cooking and heating.

Rondavels are very common in parts of Africa, especially in southern African countries like South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. They are often used as traditional housing for rural communities. People like to live in rondavels because they are cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

In summary, a rondavel is a round house made of mud or stone with a thatched roof, a central space, and a smaller room. People live in rondavels and they are common in parts of Africa.
