Rubicon model (psychology)

The Rubicon Model is a way of understanding how we make decisions. It suggests that when we are making a decision, we go through a few different steps. First, we think about all of our options. Then, we choose the best one. Finally, we take action. This is like crossing a river called the Rubicon; once we've made the decision, it's hard to turn back. We have to commit, just like soldiers did when they marched across the Rubicon River in ancient Rome. So, the Rubicon Model helps us understand how we decide things, and that it can be hard to go back once we've made a decision.
