Okay kiddo, so a long time ago, in Australia, there was a group of people called the Rum Corps. They were soldiers who were in charge of keeping the peace and protecting the colony. But instead of doing that, they started selling and drinking a lot of rum - which is like a strong drink made from sugarcane.
The governor of the colony didn't like this very much and he wanted to put a stop to it. He tried to pass laws that would make the Rum Corps stop drinking and selling rum, but they didn't listen.
So one day, the governor got really angry and he tried to arrest one of the leaders of the Rum Corps. But the soldiers didn't like that and they rebelled against the governor. They took control of the colony and put the governor in jail.
This was called the Rum Rebellion because it was all about the soldiers drinking and selling rum. Eventually, the British government found out what was happening and sent some new leaders to take charge of the colony. They made the soldiers go back to doing their job and things started to calm down.
So now we remember the Rum Rebellion as a time when people didn't follow the rules and it caused a big problem.
