Rust (fungus)

Rust is a type of fungus that likes to grow on plants, kind of like how some kids like to climb trees. Just like how you can tell a tree from a bush because a tree is bigger and has a thicker trunk, you can tell rust from other types of fungus because it looks different.

Rust is a special type of fungus that can only grow on plants, and sometimes it can even make the plant sick. Imagine if you ate too much candy and ended up with a tummy ache, that's kind of what happens to plants when they get rust. They get sick and it can make their leaves turn funny colors, like orange, red or brown.

Just like how you go to the doctor to get better when you're sick, plants can also get treatment for their rust. Farmers and gardeners can spray special medicines on the plants to make the rust go away, and then the plant can grow up big and strong just like you!
