ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sámi people

Okay, so the Sámi people are a group of people who live in the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. They have their own language, culture, and traditions that are unique to them. Imagine if you and your family spoke a special language, had different clothes you wore, and celebrated certain holidays that nobody else did - that's kind of what it's like for the Sámi people!

The Sámi people have been living in the lands up north for thousands of years. They used to be hunters and fishermen, but now they mostly work in different jobs like farming, fishing, and tourism. However, even today, some Sámi people still hunt and fish to keep their traditional ways alive.

One thing that has been really hard for the Sámi people is that sometimes other people come and take their land away. This can be really upsetting and unfair, because they've been living there for so long. They've also had a hard time because sometimes their language and culture isn't respected by the people who live nearby. That means that the Sámi people have to work extra hard to keep their traditions alive, and to make sure that people understand how important they are.

Overall, the Sámi people are a really interesting group of people with their own language, traditions, and way of life. They've been through some tough times, but they are still strong and proud of who they are.
