ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

SNAFU Principle

The snafu principle is a way of thinking which helps you to understand why things sometimes go wrong. It stands for Situation, Nature, Actions, Forces, and Outcome.

Situation: This is the starting point. It is the context that the problem is happening in.

Nature: This is the way the situation is happening. It's the "what", the "who" and other facts about the situation.

Actions: What did people do or not do that affected the situation?

Forces: What external forces or influences played a part in the situation (like weather, timing, etc)?

Outcome: This is the end result of the situation. It could be a good or bad result.

Using the snafu principle, you can figure out how the situation got to the outcome. It helps to identify where the problem lies so that you can find a solution and make things better.
