Sampler (needlework)

A sampler in needlework is like a practice sheet for sewing that has lots of different stitches on it. Kind of like when you practice writing your letters over and over again to get better.

The sampler helps you learn all the different types of stitches and how to do them correctly. It will have lines and shapes made up of different stitches, so you can see how they all look when they are finished.

People used to make samplers a long time ago to practice stitching and to show off their skills to other people. Nowadays, samplers are still made for fun or as a way to learn new techniques. You can even make your own sampler with your favorite stitches!
