Sand volcano

Have you ever built a sandcastle at the beach? Well, imagine that you piled up a lot of sand into a big hill or pyramid shape. Now, let's pretend that this pile of sand has a little bit of water inside of it.

When you dig a small hole or tunnel into this pile of sand, the water inside can start to seep out. This makes the sand around the hole get very wet and heavy.

Then, the weight of the wet sand can cause it to collapse or sink down, leaving an empty space inside where the water used to be.

This empty space becomes a little pocket or chamber in the sand. When water continues to seep in from the surrounding sand, the pressure can build up until the water and sand mixture shoots out of the hole and looks like a mini-volcano!

So, a sand volcano is really just a pile of wet sand that has a hole or chamber inside where water and sand mix together and shoot up like a tiny explosion. Cool, huh?
