Sappho

Sappho was a really cool Greek lady who lived a long time ago, even before your grandparents were born! She was a poet, which means she wrote really beautiful words that sounded like music when you read them out loud. You know how sometimes you like to sing a song that you heard on TV or the radio? Well, people still like to sing Sappho's poems today, even though she wrote them a really, really long time ago!

Sappho lived on the island of Lesbos, which is a place where a lot of other people also lived at that time. She loved things like pretty flowers, the ocean, and sunsets, and she wrote about them in her poems. She also wrote a lot about love between girls, and people think that she may have been in love with other girls too. This is really special because not many people were writing about this at that time.

Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of Sappho's poems left. This is because they were written on pieces of paper that got old and crumbled away over time. But we still know a lot about her, and people all over the world think she's one of the greatest poets that ever lived.
