Sasan (land grant)

Okay kiddo, so a long time ago, when people wanted to start a farm or build a house on some land, they needed permission from the king or ruler of that area. Sometimes, the ruler would decide to give someone a big piece of land to use all for themselves, instead of just a small piece. This big piece of land was called a "sasan" or a "land grant".

Now, the person who got the sasan had to promise to take good care of the land and use it in a way that would benefit the kingdom or the ruler. They also had to pay some taxes or give a part of their crops to the ruler as a way of saying thanks. The sasan was usually passed down from one generation to the next, which meant that the family who got it got to keep using the land for a very long time.

Today, we don't really use sasans anymore because the way we own and use land has changed. But in the past, they were an important way for rulers to control who used the land and how it was used.
