ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Schema therapy

Schema therapy is a special kind of therapy that helps people understand why they feel certain ways and behave in certain ways. Imagine a big jigsaw puzzle with lots of pieces that all fit together to make a picture. Your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors are like the pieces of the puzzle. But sometimes, one of the pieces is missing or doesn't fit quite right, and that can make you feel upset or behave in ways that don't help you feel better.

Schema therapy helps to find those missing or ill-fitting puzzle pieces and put them in the right place. It does this by helping people recognize patterns in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that might be causing them difficulty or making their lives harder. Then, with the help of a therapist, they can work out how to change those patterns for the better.

It's like going to an expert puzzle solver who knows exactly what to do to help you find the right pieces and put them together in the right way. And once you've figured it out with your therapist, you'll feel better and be able to handle difficult situations in a better way.
