ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Scientific progress

Scientific progress is like a big puzzle. Imagine you have a really cool puzzle with lots of pieces. Each piece is like a discovery or invention that scientists make. Scientists are like people who solve puzzles, but instead of just fitting pieces together, they try to find out how things work or why things happen.

Scientists like to ask lots of questions and find answers to those questions. They use experiments to test their ideas and make sure they are right. When scientists find something new, like a new piece of the puzzle, they get really excited! They share their discovery with other scientists and soon, people all over the world learn about it.

When scientists make lots of discoveries and connect them together, they can start to see the bigger picture. This is like putting lots of puzzle pieces together to make a big picture. The more pieces they find, the clearer the picture becomes.

As new discoveries are added, things we thought were true before might change. This is called a breakthrough. It's like when you finally figure out the answer to a tricky puzzle you've been working on for a long time. Breakthroughs help us understand things better than we did before.

Scientific progress happens when lots of discoveries are made and we use them to understand how things work. It's like we're constantly building a better and bigger puzzle. And each new piece we discover helps us learn more about the world around us.
