ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Scope neglect

Scope neglect is when people think about a problem in a limited way and don't pay attention to other parts of the problem. For example, imagine your friend has a candy bar that costs $2 and you have three quarters (that's 75 cents). You can clearly see that you don't have enough money to buy the candy bar, but you forget to consider that you could look for other coins, like a nickel or a dime, that you could use to make enough money for the candy bar. This is an example of scope neglect, because you ignored the larger scope of how you could get the money for the candy bar.
