ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Screen door effect

Okay kiddo, so imagine you're standing outside looking at a window. You can see through the window pretty well but there's this weird pattern on the glass that makes it look like it's divided into a bunch of squares. That's what the screen door effect is like.

Now let's imagine that instead of looking at a window, you're wearing a virtual reality headset. The headset has a screen inside that shows you a cool computer-generated world. But sometimes when you're looking around, you notice that the world is divided into small squares, just like the pattern on the window. That's the screen door effect in a virtual reality headset.

The reason this happens is because of how the screen and lenses in the headset work. The screen has a lot of tiny dots called pixels that make up the image you see. The lenses in the headset are designed to help your eyes focus on the screen, but they can also make the gaps between the pixels more noticeable. So when you look at the virtual world through the headset, it can look like you're peering through a screen door.

Hopefully that helps you understand the screen door effect a little better, kiddo!
