ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Silk screen effect

Imagine you have a piece of paper with a picture on it. When you want to make more copies of that picture, you can use a special process called silk screen printing.

First, you need a frame with a screen stretched tightly over it. The screen is like a piece of fabric with tiny holes in it. You put this frame on top of your paper with the picture, so the screen is touching the paper.

Next, you put ink onto the screen at the top of the frame. Then you use a special tool called a squeegee to push the ink down and across the screen, like wiping a window with a paper towel. The ink goes through the tiny holes in the screen and lands on the paper, making a copy of the picture.

Then you lift up the frame, and you have your first copy of the picture on the paper! You can repeat this process with more pieces of paper to make many copies of the same picture.

The silk screen effect is the look of the final copy of the picture that you get from this process. Because the ink is pressed through the holes in the screen, it can create a unique texture or pattern to the print that can give it a vintage or handmade appearance.
