Secondary forest is an area of land with trees that has regrown after the original trees were cut down or died. This can happen because the nutrients the original trees used up have been replaced by the soil, or new seeds have been planted, or animals have brought in new seeds. The old trees were probably cut down to make room for houses or roads, or farms, or to use the wood for fuel or building materials. Sometimes, secondary forests look a lot like the original forests that once grew there, with all the same kind of trees. Other times, there will be a mixture of different types of trees because all kinds of different types of seeds have been planted or brought in by animals.
