ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Secular clergy

Okay, remember when you learned about priests and bishops in church? Well, some of these people are part of a group called the secular clergy. They are special because they are not monks or nuns who live together in a community and follow strict religious rules. Instead, they live out in the regular world and do normal everyday things just like you and me.

These people are trained to help others with their spiritual needs, like leading prayer and teaching about God. They work in parishes, which are like special religious communities in different neighborhoods. They also help out in hospitals, schools, and other places where people might need comfort or guidance.

Even though they don't necessarily dress in robes or live in monasteries, these secular clergy members still have rules they have to follow. They have to be good examples in their behavior, language, and actions. They also have to make sure they are educated and trained to help others with their spiritual needs.

So, to sum it all up. The secular clergy are a special group of priests and bishops who live and work in the everyday world, helping people with their spiritual needs while still following important religious rules.
