ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Self oscillation

Self-oscillation is when something makes a sound or vibration all by itself, without anyone else making it. Imagine you have a bell. If you hit it with a hammer, it will make a ringing sound. But if you keep tapping it lightly, it can start to ring all by itself. That's self-oscillation!

In electronics, self-oscillation happens when a device, like a signal generator or amplifier, starts creating its own noise or feedback. It's kind of like when you sing into an empty water bottle and hear an echo back – that's feedback! In electronics, this feedback can create a cycle of sound that keeps going and going, like an endless echo. It's cool to listen to, but it can also cause problems if it's not controlled properly.

So, self-oscillation means something is making noise all by itself, and sometimes it happens in electronics when there's feedback that creates a loop of sound.
