ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Self-abasement

Self-abasement is when someone constantly puts themselves down and makes themselves feel inferior to others. It's like when you feel like you're not good enough or smart enough, and you keep telling yourself that over and over again. You might feel like you don't deserve praise or love, and you might avoid being around others because you don't want them to see how bad you think you are.

It's like when you accidentally spill your juice and your parent says it's okay and helps you clean it up, but instead of feeling relieved and grateful, you feel like you're a failure and start crying because you think you can't do anything right.

Self-abasement is not a good thing because it can lead to low self-esteem, depression, and anxiety. It's important to remember that everyone makes mistakes and has flaws, but that doesn't mean they're not valuable and important. It's okay to ask for help and support when you need it, and it's important to love and accept yourself for who you are.
