ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Self-aligning ball bearing

Ok kiddo, so you know how sometimes when you play with your toys, they get a little wobbly or off balance? Well, machines and big things like cars and airplanes have similar problems. That's where self-aligning ball bearings come in.

"Ball bearings" are little metal balls that help things spin smoothly. Like a wheel on a car or bike. "Self-aligning" means that the metal balls can move a little bit on their own, to help make sure everything stays balanced.

So imagine you're playing with a top that has a ball bearing inside. If it starts to wobble, you can use your finger to gently nudge it back into place. That's what a self-aligning ball bearing does! It can adjust itself to smooth out any wobbling or shaking, which helps the machine it's inside of work better and last longer.

There you go, little buddy! Self-aligning ball bearings are like tiny, self-correcting helpers inside big machines to make sure everything spins smoothly.
