ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Self-directed learning

Hi there little one! Today we're going to talk about self-directed learning. This means that you get to be in charge of your own learning, just like you can decide what game to play or what outfit to wear.

When you do self-directed learning, you get to choose what you want to learn about and how you want to learn it. Maybe you want to learn about animals, so you could read books or watch videos about them. Or maybe you want to learn a new skill, like how to draw, so you can watch tutorials or practice on your own.

This kind of learning is really cool because you get to explore things that interest you and you can learn at your own pace. You might even find new things that you really enjoy learning about!

Sometimes grown-ups can help you with your self-directed learning by giving you resources to use, like books or apps, or by asking you questions to help you think about what you're learning. But the most important thing is that you get to be in control of what you're learning and how you're learning it.

Does that make sense, little one? Remember, it's just like when you get to choose what toy to play with, but instead you're choosing what to learn about and how to do it!
