ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Self-extracting archive

Well hello there, little one! Have you ever heard of something called a self-extracting archive? No? Well, let me explain it to you.

You see, sometimes people want to send or share a bunch of files with their friends or colleagues. But, they don't want to send them one by one because that would take a lot of time and effort.

So, they put all the files together in what's called an archive - kind of like a big bag that holds lots of little bags inside it. These archives can be created using different programs, such as ZIP or RAR.

Now, a self-extracting archive is a special kind of archive that has a little magic trick up its sleeve. Not only does it hold all those little bags of files, but it can also unpack them all by itself!

You see, when someone shares a self-extracting archive with you, all you need to do is double-click it and it will automatically unpack all the files inside. It's kind of like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat!

Isn't that neat? It saves time and effort and makes it easier to share lots of files all at once. Just remember that you still need to be careful when opening files from people you don't know - you don't want any unpleasant surprises!
