ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Semi-arid climate

Have you ever been really thirsty and you can't find a lot of water around? That's kind of what it's like in a place with a semi-arid climate.

A semi-arid climate is a place where it doesn't rain very much, but it's not completely dry like a desert. It's kind of a mix between a desert and a place where it rains all the time.

In these places, the sun is usually really strong and it's really hot during the day. So hot that it makes you want to drink lots of water. But even though it's hot, it doesn't rain very often. When it does rain, it's only a little bit and then it goes away quickly.

Because it doesn't rain very much, there aren't many plants or trees that grow in these places. The ground is really dry and cracks a lot because it's so dry. But there are still some really cool animals that live in these places, like lizards and snakes that are really good at hiding and staying cool.

So when you hear someone talk about a semi-arid climate, just think of a really hot place where it doesn't rain very much and there are more animals than plants. And don't forget to bring lots of water!
