ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Senate

The Senate is like a big group of people who help make decisions for the whole country. They work in a big building called the Capitol in Washington, D.C. There are 100 Senators in the Senate, which is why it's sometimes called the "Upper House". Each state gets to choose two Senators to represent them in the Senate, no matter how big or small the state is.

Senators are a lot like grown-ups who work in your school. They have important jobs to do and work together to make rules and make sure everyone is playing fair. If you wanted to make a rule that everyone in your classroom had to wear a red shirt on Fridays, you would bring it up to your class representatives, just like how people can bring important topics to Senators.

The Senate is in charge of making laws for the whole country, like how much money should be spent on schools or what kind of taxes people should pay. The Senators talk about these ideas and vote to decide which ones should become laws. It's important that everyone has a say in what laws are created, so Senators work together to make sure every idea is discussed fairly.
