ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shelter in place

Shelter in place is like a hide-and-seek game that you play when you are indoors. It means you have to stay where you are and not move around. Remember how your mom and dad always tell you to stay in one place when you're playing hide-and-seek? It's just like that.

But why do we have to do this? Well, sometimes there are bad things happening outside, like a storm, earthquake or something else. We can't go outside because it might be too dangerous, and we have to make sure we're safe indoors. It's like putting on a superhero cape to protect yourself from the bad guys.

So, when you hear people saying "shelter in place," it just means you have to stay put and be safe until it's okay to move around again. It's important to listen to the grown-ups because they want to keep you safe. And while we wait for everything to be okay, we can read books or play games with our family.
