Shire

Okay kiddo, so a shire is kind of like a really big neighborhood. You know how your house is part of your street, and your street is part of your town, and your town is part of your state? Well, a shire is part of a bigger area called a county.

People have been using the word "shire" for a loooong time, especially in England. Nowadays, it can refer to a specific geographic area or a government district within a county.

Imagine you live in a shire called Green Hills. You might have a Green Hills community center that helps people in your shire. And you might have a Green Hills council made up of elected officials who make decisions for your shire.

Basically, a shire is just a way of dividing up a bigger area into smaller parts, so it's easier for people to manage and live in.
