ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Silwan

Silwan is a place where people live, like a big neighborhood, but it's in Jerusalem, which is a special city because different groups of people think it's important for religious reasons. Silwan is on a hill and it's been there for a long time, even before it was called Silwan.

Some people who live in Silwan say that their families have been living there for many years and it's their home. Other people who want to live there say that it's a special place and they want to be there too. But sometimes these different groups argue about who should be allowed to live there and who gets to make decisions about the land and the buildings.

Because Silwan is in Jerusalem, there are also people from different religious groups who think it's a holy place, like Christians and Jews and Muslims, and they believe important things happened there a long time ago. Some of these groups want to build new buildings or put up signs or do other things to show that they think the place is special, but this can also cause arguments and disagreements with the people who live there.

So basically, Silwan is a neighborhood in Jerusalem that has a complex history and lots of different people with different beliefs and opinions who all want to be there for different reasons.
