ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Skeptical Science

Skeptical science means applying a careful attitude towards accepting or believing something without proper evidence or proof. This approach to science means that scientists don't just accept things without checking them first, like when you ask for proof that you're going to get ice cream before you believe it. Scientists check and double-check all their information, making sure it is accurate and proven before they believe it.
It is important to be skeptical in science because it helps us protect ourselves from making mistakes, helps us to avoid believing in things that are not real, and helps to make sure science is done properly. Just like your mom might check your homework before you hand it in, scientists are always checking and making sure their answers are correct. Skeptical science means being careful, questioning, and critical about everything they believe, just like you should in your own life.
