ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Skew lattice

Hey there! Do you know what a lattice is? It's like a grid, like the ones you see on paper. A skew lattice is also like a grid, but it's a little bit different.

Imagine you have a bunch of sticks of different lengths. You put the first stick down on the floor. Then you put the second stick down on top of the first stick, but you turn it a little bit so it's not completely straight on top of the first stick. You keep doing this, with each stick being a little bit off from the previous stick, until you have a bunch of sticks all piled up.

Now imagine that these sticks are lines that go on forever in both directions. That's what a skew lattice looks like! It's like a bunch of lines that are all a little bit off-kilter from each other.

Why would we want to talk about skew lattices? Well, sometimes we use them in math to help us solve problems. They can be really helpful for things like geometry and algebra. Plus, they're pretty cool to look at!
