ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sleep inertia

So imagine it's morning time and you just woke up. You might feel a little groggy or not fully awake yet, right? That feeling is called sleep inertia.

So basically, when we sleep, our brain and body slow down and rest. When we wake up suddenly, our brain and body need some time to "wake up" fully and start working like normal again. This transition period is called sleep inertia.

It can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours for sleep inertia to completely go away. During this time, we might not feel very alert or be able to make good decisions. This is why it's important to give ourselves some time to fully wake up before doing important things like driving or going to work.

Hope that helps!
