Sluice

A sluice is like a long and narrow ramp that helps water flow in one direction. Imagine you have a big bucket of water and you want to water your garden with it. Instead of pouring the water directly on the plants, you can use a sluice to control the flow of water and make sure it goes where you want it to go.

The sluice is usually made of wood, concrete or metal and it is built on a slope. It has walls on both sides to keep the water from spilling over. When you pour water at the top of the sluice, it flows down the ramp, and as it moves, it picks up speed and momentum.

At the bottom of the sluice, the water flows into a container, such as a basin or a river. Sluices can be used for lots of things like mining, irrigation, hydro-electric power generation or for simply carrying water from one place to another.

Some people also use sluices for fun activities like gold panning. They pour water and rocks into the sluice and sift through the materials to find tiny pieces of gold.
