A smear campaign is when people say bad things about someone to make them look bad. It's like a way of cheating in a competition. Usually, people in the smear campaign will spread false or bad information to make the other person seem like a bad person. They might make up lies about them, or spread rumors. It's like they are trying to ruin the other person's reputation.
