ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Social control

Social control means that there are rules and laws that people must follow so that everyone can live in a safe, respectful, and orderly way. Social control means that people take responsibility for their own actions and don't do things that might hurt other people. For example, most places have laws against stealing, so if someone were to steal something, it is considered wrong and the person could face consequences, like having to pay a fine. Social control also means that people might be closely watched to make sure they are following the rules, such as in a classroom or workplace.
