ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Social loafing

Social loafing is when people don't work as hard when they're part of a group. For example, if there are four people in a group doing a project, each person may not work as hard as they would if they were doing it alone. That's because each person is sharing the responsibility, so they don't feel like they have to do as much. It's like when all the kids in a class pool their candy - each kid doesn't have to do as much work to get a treat.
