Sociology of scientific knowledge (SSK) is about how different social groups and people influence the production, distribution and use of scientific knowledge. It studies the roles that culture and society have in shaping the ideas, theories and discoveries that come from scientific research. For example, it looks at how different cultures view and think about science, and how different power structures influence the way that scientific research is conducted and shared. In short, SSK is about understanding the social and cultural influences on science.
